A Republican candidate for state treasurer has asked for a recanvass of the primary vote. The request is from State Rep. Lonnie Napier who was locked in a tight race with former State Court Administrator Melinda Wheeler.
With 99 percent of precincts reporting, Wheeler held a slim lead with over 54,000 votes or 32 percent. Napier had over 53,000 votes or 3.5 percent of the vote.
Meanwhile, Ken Upchurch and Brandon Smith fell behind those numbers.
Napier said if any problems appear as a result of the recanvass, he may ask for either a statewide recount or possibly ask certain counties to total their votes again.
