Voting may not be over for Kentucky’s Democrats. State Democratic party chairman Jerry Lundergan said he’s planning to resign next week, now that Kentucky Democrats have decided on the party’s gubernatorial nominee for the fall.
Former Lieutenant Governor Steve Beshear won the party’s nomination on May 22, 2007, and Lundergan said that should give Beshear the right to pick the party’s new leadership.
Lundergan said his successor should be someone who is capable of raising money from political donors and a person that knows the “ins and outs” of politics.
Outgoing State Treasurer Jonathan Miller said he’s been receiving “an avalanche” of calls from people wanting him to take over the party.
