Idaho Senator Larry Craig said he will resign at the end of September.
Senator Craig made the announcement Sept 1.
This comes after controversy over his arrest and guilty plea in a men's room sex sting in Minneapolis.
Senator Craig said he makes the decision with quote, "Sadness and deep regret."
He also apologized for the situation he has caused.
Craig has represented Idaho in Congress for more than a quarter-century and was up for re-election in 2008.
His resignation takes place Sept. 30.
