Beshear Vetoes Portions of State Budget

Beshear took the action late Friday, removing language that would have slashed the $250,000 a year salary of Economic Development Secretary Larry Hayes by about half, and eliminating $445,000 in appropriations for two road projects

The governor said the budget was neither what he wanted nor what he proposed. But he said it is better than having to halt government services, which would have been necessary had one not been enacted.

Lawmakers worked most of the year trying to reach an agreement on a state budget, ending up in a special session to finally pass one last Friday.
