Anti-Abortion Activist Files for Congress Against Guthrie

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- Two out-of-state anti-abortion activists have filed as independents to run for Congress in Kentucky so they will have a platform to promote their cause.

David Lewis of Batavia, Ohio, filed Tuesday to run in Kentucky's 4th Congressional District. And Andrew Beacham of Elkhart, Ind., filed to run in Kentucky's 2nd Congressional District.

Neither expects to win the races. Instead, they simply want to use their candidacies to oppose abortion in debates, campaign events and TV ads.

Both Lewis and Beacham are supporters of longtime anti-abortion leader Randall Terry, the Operation Rescue founder who used his unsuccessful run in the Democratic presidential primary this year as a platform to attack abortion.

Republican Brett Guthrie from Bowling Green is the current 2nd Congressional District Representative. Republican Geoff Davis resigned as 4th Congressional District Representative earlier this year.
