"It's a real honor to be even considered for something like this, to be nominated. Certainly Senator McConnell to have enough confidence in me to suggest my name to the president was a tremendous honor," said Simpson County Judge Executive Jim Henderson.

It was a nomination delivered by the president, but a recommendation given by republican Senator Mitch McConnell.

"He's certainly done an outstanding job at the position he was elected to back in '98. He's served with great distinction, and he's widely known around the state as one of our sharpest county judges," said McConnell.

Henderson was nominated by President Obama to serve on the Board of Trustees of the Harry S. Truman scholarship foundation.

"I picked judge Henderson to recommend to the president because of his outstanding record as county judge of Simpson County. Somebody I've known since before his election, and I think he's a sharp, capable individual and fortunately the president nominated him," said McConnell.

The Truman scholarship is given to outstanding students going into public service, a scholarship congress created in the 1970's in honor of president Harry Truman.

Henderson is in his fourth term as Judge Executive and is vice president of the Kentucky county Judge-Executive association, but even this is something he didn't imagine.

"Almost one of those moments where you have to step back and think, I don't know that I could have foreseen 14 years ago when I entered into elected office that someday this opportunity might come my way. So, it's pretty exciting," said Henderson.

Henderson will sit on the 13 member board made up of democrats and republicans.

Senator McConnell said he doesn't know when the confirmation will happen, but there is a great likelihood the senate will confirm the president's nomination.
