James Comer Officially Announcing Run for Governor

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -- A source close to the James Comer camp confirms Agriculture Commissioner James Comer will announce he's running for Governor tomorrow at the Fancy Farm picnic.

WBKO has learned Comer will hold an event early in the second week of September to officially kick off the campaign. He will have this event in Monroe County in Tompkinsville, which is his home turf.

At the event, Comer will announce his running mate and the organization of his campaign.

Comer joins Louisville businessman and former metro councilman Hal Heiner in the race in the republican primary. Attorney General Jack Conway is already in the race on the democratic ticket.

This announcement has long been expected by many, but it will become a reality Saturday.

Kentucky House republicans have encouraged him to go ahead and get in the race as they are trying to take the state house for the first time in decades.
