Tuesday night Members of the Bowling Green City Commission voted 3-to-2 to ban smoking in all public and work places in the city.
City hall was packed full of people who showed up to hear the fate of the smoking ban and to let their opinions be heard.
There were citizens in favor of both sides of the ban.
This was the first reading of the ordinance. It does not become official until a second reading at a subsequent city commission meeting.
That will be Monday night during a special called meeting.
If the ban passes there, it will take effect ninety days after.
Mayor Elaine Walker and commissioners Brian "Slim" Nash and Bill Waltrip voted for the ban. Commissioners Bruce Wilkerson and Joe Denning voted against it.
