Chandler Banks $500,000 More for Re-election Bid

DANVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Democratic U.S. Rep. Ben Chandler has raised another $500,000 since July 1 for his re-election effort in Kentucky's 6th District.

Chandler filed a report with the Federal Election Commission Thursday, showing he still has more than $830,000 on hand heading into the Nov. 6 election.

Chandler is in a heated race with Republican challenger Andy Barr, a Lexington attorney, who hasn't yet filed an FEC report for the third quarter.

Their race has taken an especially nasty tone in recent days, with Chandler and the Democratic National Congressional Committee airing TV spots, accusing Barr of trying to hide his "criminal record." Barr was charged by police with possession of a fake driver's license nearly 20 years ago, when he was 19-year-old college student.

The Barr campaign called the ads "reprehensible."
