Believing that the Federal government’s decision to try terrorists in Bowling Green’s federal court is ill-advised, Representative Jim DeCesare (R)-Bowling Green has pre-filed a Joint Resolution, which demands the President and the Attorney General of the United States, reverse their plan to try Waad Ramadan Alwan and Mohanad Shareef Hammadi in Kentucky.

Bill Request 88 also urges the transfer of these two enemy combatants to the detention facility at Guantanamo, Cuba for trial by a military tribunal.

DeCesare said, “These terrorist, who were planning another horrific attack on our country and U.S. military abroad, are being treated as common criminals. By trying them in a federal court, we are sending the wrong message to the citizens of our Commonwealth and the nation. There is no point in our tax dollars being spent to house and prosecute these insurgents as if they were U.S. citizens.”

Bill Request 88 states “these men were far from ‘refugees’, they were al-Qaeda terrorists, one of whom admitted to an unnamed source he had carried out numerous attacks with improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and sniper attacks on U.S. troops and boasted about killing U.S. soldiers.”

“The decision to hold these trials in our Commonwealth is extremely reckless. Not only is it opposed by majority of Kentuckians, but the decision to hold these trials in our state could result in retaliation against the jurors, judges or our citizens,” added DeCesare. “These men entered our country with the intention to cause catastrophic events. This resolution serves as a call upon the President and the Attorney General to treat these terrorists as such and move this trial out of our state and country.”
