EDMONTON, Ky. (AP) -- Democrats in south-central Kentucky have chosen retired dairy farmer and former Metcalfe County magistrate Barry Dean Steele, to run in a special election for a House seat previously held by James Comer, who was sworn in as state agriculture commissioner this month.
Steele was chosen Monday in Edmonton during a meeting of Democrats from the 53rd District, which includes Cumberland, Green, Metcalfe, and Monroe counties.
The special election is February 7.
Last week, Republicans selected Tompkinsville insurance man Bart Rowland as their nominee for the seat.
