Environmentalists go After Senator Paul in TV Spot

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- The League of Conservation Voters is planning to launch a TV ad on Lexington stations blasting Senator Rand Paul for trying to block the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency from implementing tougher standards on power plants.

The $150,000 ad buy is scheduled to begin on Friday.

The organization is targeting a resolution Paul introduced that seeks to nullify the Cross State Air Pollution Rule, a public health safeguard developed by the EPA to require power plants to decrease air pollution that travels across state lines.

The group's president, Gene Karpinski, said Thursday, Paul should be working to protect Kentuckians from pollution. The ad calls for Kentuckians to contact Paul and "tell him to stop pushing laws that protect out-of-state polluters."

A Paul spokeswoman didn't immediately return a call seeking comment.
