FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- Lawmakers have taken a first step toward adopting a two-year, $3.5 billion transportation budget that would pay for road and bridge construction across the state.
The House Appropriations and Revenue Committee voted 25-1 on Thursday to approve the construction plan. The proposal now goes to the full House for consideration.
The House previously passed a $19.5 billion biennial spending plan that imposes 8.4 percent cuts on most executive, judicial, and legislative branch agencies.
Even some 200,000 state and local government retirees took hits, when lawmakers erased 1.5 percent cost-of-living increases from their monthly pension payments.
