We continue our series with the candidates for Bowling Green City Commission tonight with incumbent Melinda Hill. She talks about creating jobs, much as the other candidates have, but Melinda has a little different slant on it.

"Creating more jobs," she says, "but most of the time when we think of jobs, we think of jobs for young people. But we also want to focus on jobs for our older citizens. I've heard so many stories of people my age and older who've been with an organization for 20, 30 years, and all of a sudden that organization no longer needs them. So we need to focus on that age group, as well as just our college graduates."

Melinda was a vocal supporter of Bowling Green's new fireworks ordinance, so I asked her why she took that stand.

"By passing the ordinance allowing the sale and use of fireworks," Hill says," we brought in $25,000 to our community. Did we have complaints? Yes. But we only, our police department only responded to less than 160, it was159 calls during July 3rd, 4th, and 5th. What concerns me the most about fireworks, it's how citizens reacted to them. Where did our common courtesy go? If people had followed the law, by stop shooting them at the required times and kept them in the designated locations, we wouldn't have had issues."
