We continue our series with the candidates for Bowling Green City Commission with incumbent Joe Denning, who says delivering city services while staying within the city budget is his top priority.
"Well the main issue is maintaining a budget balance," says Denning, "and being able to provide the services to the citizens of Bowling Green. As you're well aware, we are mandated to provide certain services; police department, fire, public works, and all of those things are requirements that we have to provide. So we have to have a certain income coming in order to do those things. So keeping a balanced budget and watching where the money goes is the number one priority."
Denning also says his background and decisiveness make him the right choice.
"Well, I think I bring 18 years of experience to the city commission," he says, "and I think I have a proven track record to show that I have the ability to make the decisions and not straddle the fence. I don't take sides. I try to do what is best, I think, for the majority of the citizens of the city. And I think that people vote for us and send us down to the city commission and they expect us, based on the information that we have on that particular issue, to make the best decision."
