FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- State Representative Tom Burch and Senator Julie Denton told the Lexington Herald-Leader Wednesday, they want to hold a hearing next month on how child deaths and near deaths are reported.

Burch and Denton co-chair the Interim Joint Committee on Health and Welfare, and say they are awaiting approval from legislative leaders to schedule a meeting of the panel.

The issue has come to the forefront after a Franklin circuit judge recently ordered the release of records in the death of Amy Dye, a 9-year-old girl in Todd County, who was beaten to death by her adopted brother, Garrett Dye.
