McConnell on Getting Reelected

As he faces ambitious campaigns in his run for reelection, Senator Mitch McConnell is promoting his power in the Senate as a reason to keep him there.

Do we want the leader of the Senate to be someone from Kentucky?  Or do we want the leader of the Senate to be someone from Nevada who also believes coal makes you sick?"

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -- Senator Mitch McConnell is already facing aggressive campaigns from both republican Matt Bevin and democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes.

Thursday I asked him if that, plus the general dissatisfaction people have with the current Congress, has him concerned about getting re-elected.

This is his answer: "I'm a big target you know. As one of the leaders in the Senate you end up getting a lot more friends and a lot more enemies than you do if you're just a senator from some state somewhere in America. We'll have a big race here next year about the future of the country, but the fundamental issue is this. Do we want the leader of the Senate to be someone from Kentucky? Or do we want the leader of the Senate to be someone from Nevada who also believes coal makes you sick?"

McConnell has served the longest time of any U.S Senator in Kentucky history.
