FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- The Senate Judiciary Committee voted 7-4 Thursday for the bill by Senate Majority Leader Robert Stivers of Manchester. The sponsor said afterward he would not rule out the possibility that it could get a vote on the floor later in the afternoon.
Stivers' latest bill is a compromise that would allow purchase without a prescription of up to 3.6 grams per month of drugs that contain ephedrine, pseudoephedrine, or other ingredients being used to make illegal methamphetamine. An earlier version would have required a prescription for any amount. It includes a 15-gram annual cap on purchases without prescription.
The legislation is Senate Bill 3.
