Transportation Official: BG Airport Funding "Legislative Overreach"

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -- The Bowling Green Warren County Regional Airport money was part of what transportation officials are calling a legislative overreach.

Gov. Steve Beshear, D-Kentucky vetoed a project in the transportation bill that cut funding for the BG airport.

Area lawmakers and officials were very upset with this decision.

Now, a transportation official said this veto was about protecting power in the executive branch.

"Protection of Executive Branch discretion and decision making authority as opposed to having the legislative branch dictate in minute detail how certain pots of funding were to be spent or how certain policies were to be exercised," said Chuck Wolfe, Executive Director KYTC Office of Public Affairs

About $750,000 in state funding were lost.

There were other airport projects cut across the state also.

The veto was for the projects, so the money is still available and area lawmakers hope they can get the project back in there.
