Williams Challenges Beshear on Gambling Proposal

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Republican David Williams, who is running against Beshear in the November 8 election, made the challenge during a political forum in Louisville Wednesday.

Beshear has been a major proponent of expanding gambling opportunities, in the state where people have been betting on horse races for generations. He made casino-style gambling the centerpiece of his last campaign, using it as a catapult into the governor's mansion.

Williams called for Beshear to gauge support for gambling in the legislature. If enough lawmakers support it, Williams said the matter should be voted on by the House and Senate.
