Preparing For The Digital Transition

In just two days, the way you watch television will change forever.

All television stations will begin broadcasting exclusively in a digital format.

But if you haven't made the conversion by getting a "digital converter" box, there's still time.

"I was getting at least 100 a week. We were probably selling between 20 and 50 a week depending if people received their government coupon or not," says Linda Vetor of Camping World.

Vetor says earlier this year sales of converter boxes were through the roof.

Now its different.

"They've been a little slow now. I think most people already have both their converter boxes."

Over the last few months Vetor says the store has experienced "trickle down" sales of the converter boxes, meaning a purchase every so often.

Right now they are down to 6 boxes.

She says once they're gone from shelves.... they're gone.

"I only have a few left at this point and we're not planning on ordering anymore because we feel that a majority of customers have already gotten their converter boxes."

But for those who have already purchased a box, you are urged to re-scan your box at least once in order to gain all of the new channels.

Kevin Crosslyne of radio shack demonstrates the process to re-scan your television.

"First thing you want to do is hit the menu button on the converter box. Go to auto scan. Press select. And you'll have the option of updating or rescanning," says Crosslyne.

Crosslyne says be aware that if you hit "update" your TV will keep all of the channels you already had in it and will add in the news ones it picks up as well.

But if you hit re-scan... It will start completely over and select all the new channels and delete the old ones.

WBKO made the switch to digital earlier this year.
