Robert P. “Bob” Baumgarten, 73, of Bowling Green died at 3:35 p.m. Feb. 10, 2007. The Louisville native retired in 1993 after 36 years of service with South Central Bell Telephone Co. as a cable splicer. He was a 1952 graduate of St. Xavier High School in Louisville, a past member of the 149th Infantry, National Guard Unit of Louisville and Holy Spirit Catholic Church. He was a son of the late Robert Ernie Baumgarten and Mable Louise Seig Baumgarten. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Eric Baumgarten; and his favorite sister-in-law, Lynda Cantrel of Louisville. Funeral is at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home, with burial in St. Joseph Catholic Church Cemetery. A prayer service is at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, followed by visitation until 8 p.m. Additional visitation begins at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Joseph Children's Home, 2823 Frankfort Ave., Louisville, KY 40206. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Bertha Cantrel Baumgarten; two sons, Charles “Chuck” A. Baumgarten and his wife, Tina, of Bowling Green and Robert “Bobby” J. Baumgarten and his wife, Debbie, of Lebanon; a daughter, Michele Lee Allen and her husband, David, of Lewisport; three sisters, Germaine Elder and Dorothy Miller, both of Louisville, and Merle Smith and her husband, Lou, of Jacksonville, Fla.; a special brother-in-law, Lee Cantrel of Louisville; a very special lifelong friend, A.J. “Tony” Krebs of Louisville; four grandchildren, Kelly Jo Mays and her husband, Jason, Holly Ann Baumgarten, Myles A. Baumgarten and Kyle Baumgarten, all of Bowling Green; and several nieces and nephews.
