GLASGOW — James Walter Allen, 76, of Merry Oaks died Oct. 31, 2009, at a Glasgow nursing home. The Barren County native was a lifetime farmer, an Army veteran and a member of Merry Oaks United Methodist Church. He was a son of the late Audrey Allen and Allie Myers Allen. He was preceded in death by a brother, Rodney Allen; and two sisters, Hilda Furlong and Viola Allen. Funeral is at 11 a.m. Tuesday at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home, with burial in Merry Oaks Cemetery. Visitation is from noon to 8 pm today at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Kentucky Chapter, Kaden Tower, 6100 Dutchmans Lane. Ste. 401, Louisville, KY 40205-3284. Survivors include his wife, Glenna Pedigo Allen; a daughter, Judy Chambers and her husband, Coleman, of Portland, Tenn.; a brother, Bill Allen and his wife, Wilma, of Merry Oaks; two sisters, Jean Pursley and Dorothy Witty and her husband, James, all of Glasgow; two grandchildren, Ben Chambers and his wife, Mary, of Merry Oaks and Shannon Sieck and her husband, Eric, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a great-grandchild, Leah Lane Chambers of Merry Oaks; and several nieces and nephews.
