James Leroy Whittle, 62, of Smiths Grove, died at 10:49 a.m. Feb. 6, 2010, at The Medical Center. The Smiths Grove native was born July 5, 1947. He was the owner of Econo Signs, which he co-founded in 1984. He was a member of the Church of Christ, a U.S. Air Force veteran who served in Vietnam and a member of the American Legion. He loved horse racing and fishing. He was a son of the late Leroy Whittle and Kathleen Wilson Watt. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ronnie Whittle. Funeral is at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at J.C. Kirby & Son Funeral Home, Lovers Lane chapel, with burial in Smiths Grove Cemetery. Visitation is from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and begins at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Donna Cornell Whittle; a son, Mike Whittle and his wife, Sheri, of Bowling Green; two daughters, Sonya Dishon and her husband, Jason, and Jeanette Shelton and her husband, Chris, all of Smiths Grove; a sister, Linda Jako and her husband, Henry, of Hopkinsville; nine grandchildren, Makenna Dishon, Makenzie Dishon, James Thomas Dishon, Makayla Dishon, Colbey Shelton, Seth Shelton, Caden Whittle, Carter Whittle and Ella Whittle; and several nieces and nephews.
