| Alan Brent Miller, 28, of Roanoke, Va., died Feb. 5, 2010, in High Point, N.C. He was a 1999 graduate of Greeneville High School and received his bachelor’s degree in English and religion from Western Kentucky University. He was a gifted writer and a national winner of the Robert Penn Warren Centennial Essay Award. He was a member of Towering Oaks Baptist Church in Greeneville, Tenn., where he was blessed to be a part of a very active youth group and created lifelong friends and a lifelong faith in God. He spent most of his last years working and caring for the homeless in Roanoke, Va. His passion for the less fortunate and “those life had walked on” was his life’s work. He was a son of Robert and Karen Miller, of Parrottsville, Tenn., who survive. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Casper and Blanche Miller. Funeral is at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Sego Funeral Home, with burial at 10 a.m. Thursday in Goodman Family Cemetery. Visitation is from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a memorial service to follow at Towering Oaks Baptist Church, and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral Home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Green County Food Bank, 107 N. Cutler St., Greeneville, TN 37743, or other ministry of choice. Other survivors include a sister, Laura Ong and her husband, Han, of Batesville, Ark.; a nephew, Noah Ong, of Batesville; maternal grandparents, Kermit and Laverne Willian, of Munfordville; aunts and uncles, Carletta and David Douglas, of Winchester, Ron and Brenda Miller, of East Bernstadt, Rodney Willian, Tim and Lisa Willian, of Munfordville, and Todd and Allison Willian, of Franklin; and a host of cousins, family and friends in several states and around the world. | |
