Gov. Steve Beshear will make stops in northeastern Kentucky on Thursday with a state legislator engaged in a heated election campaign.

Beshear had said earlier this week that he would lend his support to the legislator, Democratic state Rep. Robin Webb of Grayson, who is running for a vacant seat in the state Senate against Republican nominee Jack Ditty, a dermatologist from Russell.

Beshear is only the latest political heavy-hitter to get involved in the race. Republican U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell toured the district with Ditty on Tuesday.

A special election is set for Aug. 25 to fill the seat Senate left vacant after the resignation of longtime state Sen. Charlie Borders.

Beshear and Webb have stops scheduled in Greenup, Maysville and Vanceburg.
