FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- The Legislative Ethics Commission is
investigating state Senate Democratic Leader Ed Worley's deal to build
a state courthouse annex.
The Lexington Herald Leader reports state legislators and their
spouses are prohibited from leasing real estate to state agencies. But
the Richmond legislator will be leasing the building to Madison County
and the county will, in turn, lease it to the state Administrative Office of
the Courts.
Worley plans to rent the building for $409,356 a year.
Since his election in 1999, Worley has collected millions of dollars in
construction contracts from public entities that he helps to get state
funding.
On Friday, Worley said he resents the idea that he uses his position in
the Senate for personal gain.
