Governor Steve Beshear is responding to republican proposals for a constitutional amendment on expanded gaming.

During a visit to northern Kentucky yesterday, Governor Beshear called the proposals "a smokescreen" and said it's time the senate leadership "step up" and make a commitment to put the legislation on the floor during the next session.

Tuesday, Senate President David Williams announced he would file legislation for a constituional amendment to ban expanded gaming without a statewide vote. Georgetown Republican, Senator Damon Thayer also announced plans to file a bill for a constitutional amendment that would allow video lottery terminals or "VTRs."
