Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner (GYT'-nur) says the federal budget deficit is too high, but the White House hasn't decided what to do about it yet.
Asked whether taxes will rise, Geithner tells NBC that the president is committed to dealing with the deficit without increasing taxes on people making less than $250,000 a year.
But Geithner says the focus now is "getting growth back on track" and creating jobs. He says there has been positive movement, but acknowledges that the recovery has been shaky and uneven and could "take awhile."
House Republican leader John Boehner (BAY'-nur) tells CNN the president's economic stimulus has done nothing more than increase the size of government. He says government spending and proposals for health care will increase taxes, leaving businesses "afraid to invest."
