The House is pushing toward a historic vote this weekend on President Barack Obama's proposed 10-year, $1.2 trillion health care overhaul.
Democratic leaders are seeming increasingly confident, with the powerful seniors' lobby AARP apparently poised to back the bill. The president will add more clout when he visits Capitol Hill tomorrow to personally lobby for the measure.
House leaders aren't saying they have the 218 votes needed to pass the bill. They're still negotiating language on abortion and immigration provisions. But scheduling the vote means that those issues will have to be resolved and undecided lawmakers will have to declare themselves.
Action is slower on the other side of the Capitol, where negotiations could spill into next year.
