FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- The Reverend Jeff Fugate of Lexington, a nationally known evangelist and pastor of Clays Mill Road Baptist Church, said Wednesday, gambling would bring only brokenness to Kentucky families and shouldn't even be considered by lawmakers.

Kentucky has a long history of betting on horse races, but has tight restrictions on casino-style gambling.

Beshear's proposal calls for the legislature to approve a proposed constitutional amendment, that would then be placed on the ballot for Kentucky voters to decide whether to ratify or reject it.
