WBKO's Rachel Markin was in Glasgow today, as people voted on alcohol sales at Green Palace Meadery.

"I'm very excited about a new industry moving into Glasgow, making new jobs, new opportunities and I like wine," says resident, Brenda Coats.

People at Glasgow Middle School were voting on whether they wanted Green Palace Meadery to sell wine.

Since Barren County is dry, those who live in the area where the proposed winery would open, off of Old Edmonton Loop-1, had to give their thumbs up.

"We now finally have liquor by the drink in the restaurants and many people enjoy that, so its brought more people into the restaurants, so people should come to buy wine we hope," says Coats.

Brenda Coats voted in favor of the winery, she believes Green Palace Meadery would bring money and tourists into the area.

"I go on wine trips across Alabama and Tennessee so why would it not bring tourists to Kentucky?," says Coats.

"It would be a good opportunity for those people who want to buy wine to buy it here and not go somewhere else like Bowling Green," says Janet Wyatt.

Of course, resident Janet Wyatt says not everyone agrees with opening a winery.

"Well a lot of people don't believe in alcohol or alcohol sales so I'm sure there will be people against it," says Wyatt.

This isn't the first time where voters recently pushed to over-ride dry precinct rules and sell wine. Cave Valley Winery in Mammoth Cave opened in Edmonson County this summer.

Once again, voters in Barren County approved opening a new winery by nearly two-to-one.
