5-Bean Soup Mix In a Jar

Directions:
1. For seasoning mix: Stir together the first five ingredients in a small bowl. Transfer the seasoning mix into the bottom of a quart jar or decorative container with a tight fitting lid.
2. Layer the beans and peas on top of the seasoning until the jar is filled. Place the bay leaf on top. Tighten the lid. 3. To make bean soup: Empty the jar of soup mix into a large pot, and cover the beans with water, about 1 inch above the beans. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, then cover and simmer until beans are tender, about 1 ½ to 2 hours. Check the beans occasionally to see if they are covered with water. Add hot water as needed during cooking to keep the beans covered with liquid. |
