Investigators removed the body of a young woman on Dec. 23, thought to be that of a missing Marshall University student.

Officials did not confirm the remains to be that of 21-year-old Leah Hickman, a journalism student who has been missing since December 14.

The body was found in a crawl space at an apartment building where Hickman lived.

Neighbors say they are shocked at the discovery.

"I feel like, how come I wasn't sitting out here and seen something out of place?" said Kenneth Mauge, a neighbor.

The body was sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Charleston, West Virginia for an autopsy.

Police remained tight lipped about the case, releasing few details.

They did say at a briefing on Dec. 21 that her death was an apparent homicide.
