For the class of 2008, graduation is looming. It's a frightening time for many seniors, but one Bowling Green High School teacher is bringing mentors to her class.

You may remember that Janet Martin was rewarded with $500.00 as part of One Class at a Time. Mrs. Martin spent the money buying her students copies of the book, Seven Habits for Highly Effective Teens. Now, she's introducing her students to a few of Bowling Green High School's most highly effective alumni.

This is Janet Martin's fourth period senior English class, but this isn't exactly a normal day.

"We're inviting some of our prestigious alumni to come speak to my seniors about different habits they've incorporated into their lives," says Mrs. Martin.

The Bowling Green High alumni paying it forward today is Balloon-a-gram company owner Nick Wilkins, known to many as Broadway the Clown.

"Our graduates can really make that connection with the alumni. They were really here. They sat in these seats. They walked through these halls," she explains.

Though they're pumped for graduation, these seniors are taking career advice seriously.

"It really made me realize he loves his job and by following the habits, he's really successful," says Bowling Green high senior Ryan Gleason.

It's an unconventional way of teaching.

"I think any type of educational material is much more effective if you put some fun in it," Wilkins says. "Making as simple a thing as a balloon animal, once you learn to do something, that's self rewarding."

Nick's just trying to teach students to juggle big responsibilities and conquer fears great and small.

"In their future professions, whatever they want to do, they can do it. If they try and are not fearful to take the next step and always go forward," Wilkins concludes.

Among the speakers still to come to Mrs. Martin's class are Warren County Commonwealth Attorney Chris Cohron and Bowling Green Independent Schools board member Deborah Williams.
