LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- The University of Louisville Foundation has approved a 25 percent pay raise for U of L President James Ramsey.

That puts his base pay at $600,000 annually starting January 1. In addition, Ramsey will get $2 million in retention bonuses if he continues to serve in his current role through 2020.

U of L spokesman Mark Hebert told The Courier-Journal, the U of L Foundation, which is privately funded, would pay for the raise and bonuses.

Ramsey's current salary is $478,939 annually. He has been president at U of L since 2002.

Ramsey was once Vice President for Finance and Administration at WKU.
