The Kentucky football team advanced to No. 8 in The Associated Press poll and the USA Today Coaches poll in rankings released Sunday. It is the first time since the 1977 season-ending poll (No. 6) that the Wildcats have been in the Top-10 rankings.
The current Cats are 5-0, 1-0 in the Southeastern Conference, after Saturday’s 45-17 win over Florida Atlantic. Kentucky is off to its best start since the 1984 squad also began at 5-0. Including last season, UK has won 10 of its last 11 games. That is the best 11-game stretch since the 1977 team had a season record of 10-1.
The Wildcats return to action Thursday night at South Carolina, which is 4-1 overall, 2-1 in the SEC. The Gamecocks are rated No. 11 nationally by AP.
