Bowling Green, Ky. — A Red-White scrimmage and luncheon featuring a pair of coaching legends highlight the Western Kentucky University men’s basketball program’s preseason activities, it was announced Monday.
The Hilltoppers will make their first public appearance of the 2007-08 season on Thursday, Oct. 25 when they take part in a Red-White scrimmage at E.A. Diddle Arena. A “Meet the Toppers” autograph session will begin at 6:30 p.m. (CDT) on the floor, with the game scheduled to tip at 7 p.m.
In lieu of charging admission for the scrimmage, each entrance of Diddle Arena will have a location set up in order to accept donations that will be split evenly between the Danny Rumph Memorial Scholarship Fund and the Daniel E. Rumph II Foundation.
Then, at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1, a tip-off luncheon featuring former Alabama head coach Wimp Sanderson and Sonny Smith, who led Auburn for 11 seasons, will take place at the Bowling Green Country Club. The cost to attend the lunch is $10 per individual or $100 for a table, with a limited number of tickets available through the Hilltopper Athletic Foundation office. Individuals or groups interested in attending the luncheon can call 270-745-5321 to purchase tickets.
Later that night, WKU will play the first of two preseason exhibition contests when Campbellsville visits Diddle Arena, with the start scheduled for 7 p.m.
The Hilltoppers — who have won more than 20 games each of the last three years — begin the regular season on Friday, Nov. 9 against Kennesaw State in the first of three straight home contests.
