Bowling Green, Ky. — After a weekend that saw her reach a career milestone, Western Kentucky University junior libero Kelly Hofmeyer was named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
It marks the first time in her career that Hofmeyer has earned the league’s weekly honor.
Hofmeyer joined the career 1,000 digs club on Friday night when she finished with a season-best 32 digs in WKU’s five-game win over North Texas. It was the third time in her career she has posted 30-plus digs in a match, and most since she finished with a career-high 35 against Evansville early in the 2006 season.
Hofmeyer followed that performance with 19 digs Saturday night in WKU’s win over Denver. On the week, she averaged a team-best 5.67 digs per game. Hofmeyer has also now moved into 10th place on the WKU career digs list, entering play this week with 1,035 in her two-plus seasons on the Hill.
