Bowling Green, Ky. — A trio of sophomores were among the five Western Kentucky University football players who were named team captains for the Hilltoppers’ upcoming game at Ball State Saturday.
Tyrell Hayden, Jeremy Moore and Lloyd Pressley will be joined by senior Bo Smith and junior Travis Watters when WKU faces the Cardinals at 1 p.m. (CDT) in Muncie, Ind. Smith is the only repeat selection among the group, as he was also a team captain for the Toppers’ season-opening contest at Florida.
Hayden, who hails from Lexington, Ky., has run for more than 100 yards in back-to-back outings after gaining 121 on 18 carries last time out at Bowling Green. Moore — an Indianapolis, Ind., native, and the only Hoosier among the quintet of captains this week — averaged 39.4 yards per punt against the Falcons, with three kicks downed inside the BGSU 20-yard line. Pressley, who is from Evansville, Ind., graded out at 88 percent in the BGSU game, and has been credited with a 90 percent mark or higher three times in WKU’s first five contests this season.
A Rockledge, Fla., resident, Smith had three total tackles last time out, giving him 14 stops for the year. Watters, a native of Louisville, Ky., recorded a season-best six tackles at Bowling Green, including three solo stops.
This will be the third of four straight road games for the Hilltoppers, who travelled to take on Middle Tennessee and BGSU to close out September.
