Bowling Green, Ky. — Western Kentucky University announced its tipoff times and a pair of changes to the 2007-08 Lady Topper basketball schedule on Thursday.
WKU will take the court for the first time on Sunday, Nov. 4 when it hosts Lindsey Wilson College in a recently-announced exhibition game at 2 p.m. (CST). That game will serve as the only preseason tuneup for the Lady Toppers as they open the regular season just five days later, hosting East Tennessee State at 6 p.m. in the opening round of the 2007 Preseason Women’s National Invitation Tournament. The remainder of the WNIT slate will be determined as the championship and consolation brackets unfold.
Following its participation in the WNIT, WKU will be back at home on Nov. 20 to host Louisiana Tech at 7 p.m. in the 25th Annual BB&T Classic. In all, eight of the Lady Toppers’ home games will tip at 7 p.m. (Louisiana Tech, Morehead State — Nov. 27, Middle Tennessee — Jan. 3, Florida Atlantic — Jan. 17, Arkansas State — Jan. 26, Troy — Feb. 14, and South Alabama — Feb. 20).
The remainder of home schedule includes a pair of 2 p.m. tipoffs against Louisville on Dec. 16 and Florida International on Jan. 13, 3 p.m. contests with Denver on Feb. 2 and Louisiana-Monroe on Feb. 23, and a 4 p.m. start against Missouri State on Dec. 29.
WKU will meet Southern Illinois in the first game of the 2007 George Washington Thanksgiving Classic at 2 p.m. on Nov. 23, then follow the next day with a 4:30 p.m. start against the host Colonials. A 6 p.m. contest at Kentucky on Nov. 30, a 7 p.m. game at Vanderbilt on Dec. 6 and a 6:30 p.m. meeting with North Carolina On Dec. 20 in Myrtle Beach, S.C. round out the nonconference schedule.
Due to a scheduling error, the Lady Toppers have been forced to postpone their trip to South Dakota State — scheduled Dec. 3 — until a future season.
WKU will open the Sun Belt Conference slate with a 7 p.m. contest at Troy Dec. 27 — the first of nine league road games. The Lady Toppers will play a pair of 2 p.m. Sunday road conference games when they visit South Alabama on Jan. 6 and Middle Tennessee on Feb. 17. The start time for WKU’s trip to Louisiana-Lafayette on Jan. 24 has not yet been determined.
The Lady Toppers will also play the front end of three road doubleheaders with the men’s basketball team, taking on Louisiana-Monroe at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 10, Florida International at 4:15 p.m. on Feb. 27 and Florida Atlantic at 4 p.m. on March 1. The remaining two road conference games — at New Orleans (Jan. 24) and at North Texas (Feb. 6) — will both begin at 7 p.m.
The 2007 Sun Belt Conference Tournament will get underway with first-round games on campus sits on March 5, with the quarterfinals, semifinals and championship game to take place March 8-11 at the Mitchell Center in Mobile, Ala.
