Senior Wesley Woodyard has been named one of 10 semifinalists for the Butkus Award for the nation’s best linebacker.
Woodyard leads the Wildcats this season with 77 tackles, with eight tackles for loss, two quarterback sacks, four pass breakups, and one caused fumble. He tied a career high with 18 tackles in the win at Arkansas, along with causing a fumble that Trevard Lindley returned for a touchdown, and was named Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Week for that performance.
The Butkus Award is presented by the Downtown Athletic Club of Orlando (Fla.). In addition to Woodyard, the semifinalist list includes Dan Connor of Penn State, Shawn Crable of Michigan, Jordon Dizon of Colorado, Erin Henderson of Maryland, Ali Highsmith of LSU, James Laurinaitis of Ohio State, J Leman of Illinois, Ben Moffitt of South Florida, and Keith Rivers of Southern California.
