Bowling Green, Ky. — Seniors Jared Holland, Andre Lewis and Chris Walker were selected to serve as Western Kentucky University’s captains when the Hilltoppers return home for the first time in more than a month this weekend.
All have filled the role previously this season, led by Lewis — it marks the second straight contest, and fifth time overall, that he will be a game captain. Holland was a captain in the Toppers’ win at Middle Tennessee, while Walker was chosen prior to WKU’s victory over Eastern Kentucky in the “Battle of the Bluegrass.”
The Hilltoppers will play host to North Carolina Central Saturday, with kickoff slated for 6 p.m. (CDT) at Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium. It will be their first home game since the win over EKU on Sept. 15.
A native of Franklin, Tenn., Holland received a 94 percent overall grade — matching his highest mark of the year — while catching a nine-yard pass for his second reception of the season in last week’s 56-7 victory at Indiana State.
Lewis led the Toppers for the third straight game in tackles after posting six stops against the Sycamores, which included a sack. The Madison, Tenn., resident also recovered his first fumble of the year.
Walker — who hails from Manchester, Ky. — was credited with a pair of assisted tackles at ISU, bringing his season total to a career-best 26. That’s the most stops posted by a WKU defensive lineman this fall.
