Whoever said defense wins games must have a particularly special spot in the Monroe County locker room lately.

The Falcons gained only 106 yards Friday at Allen County-Scottsville, but still ground out a 14-7 win over the Patriots for just its second victory of 2007.

Sheldon Hamilton carried 22 times for 58 yards and a touchdown for the Falcons (2-6), who led 6-0 at halftime.

The Patriots (1-8) were led by Cory Cooper's 89 rushing yards on 16 attempts. Flint Lich scored Allen County-Scottsville's lone touchdown.

Next week, the Falcons finalize preparations for the playoffs by hosting Wayne County while the Patriots visit Edmonson County in a final effort to claim a postseason spot out of Class 4A, District 2. is happy to provide a forum for commenting and discussion.
