A Western Kentucky University official says a student found dead in his residence hall room died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Western spokesman Bob Skipper says 20-year-old Nathan Eisert, a sophomore from Louisville, was found about 8:15 Monday night in his room in Pearce-Ford Tower. Eisert was the son of Jan Ulrich of Louisville and Glenn Eisert of Bowling Green.

The 6-foot-5 Eisert was a walk-on member of the Hilltopper basketball team but had been recently dismissed for academic reasons. He played high school basketball at Louisville Seneca.

Coach Dennis Felton expressed profound regret and said Eisert was an important part of the Hilltopper basketball program the past two seasons.

Funeral arrangements for Nathan Eisert is at 10 AM at Summitt Heights United Methodist Church in Louisville.

Coach Felton has requested that players who lived on the same floor as Eisert be relocated.
