When faced with a rematch against a team they beat earlier in the season, coaches often rely on the adage, "It's hard to beat a good team twice."
Friday night in Greensburg, Green County learned that lesson better than most.
The Dragons beat Metcalfe County 32-24 in the regular season, but lost to the Hornets in resounding fashion Friday, seeing their season end 41-14.
Daniel DeLeon paced Metcalfe County, carrying 20 times for 181 yards and three touchdowns while Will Warf finished 12-of-19 passing for 210 yards and three total touchdowns (two passing, one rushing). The Hornets outgained the Dragons 445-241 for the night.
Zeth Rogers led Green County with 112 rush yards on 15 carries, but his efforts were negated by six Dragon turnovers.
Metcalfe County (10-2) visits Trigg County next week with a spot in the state semifinals on the line. The Hornets had advanced to three of the last four class A quarterfinals, but were beaten back by Mayfield each time.
Green County's season ends at 11-1.
