Metcalfe County might've had nightmares about facing Mayfield in the postseason - the Cardinals ended the Hornets' state title hopes three of the last four years in the regional final.

If that's the case, the folks in Edmonton are likely to have nothing but sweet dreams when thinking about Trigg County.

The Hornets are still alive in the KHSAA Class 2A Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl, easily dismissing the Wildcats 47-13 in Cadiz Friday to capture the school's first region championship.

Daniel DeLeon led the way for Metcalfe County, rushing for 238 yards and accounting for five touchdowns (four on the ground, one through the air). Senior quarterback Will Warf finished 7-of-15 passing for 82 yards and two touchdowns.

The Hornets (11-2) host Fort Campbell in next week's state semifinal, with the winner moving on to the KHSAA 2A Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl championship Saturday December 8th at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium in Louisville.
