Metcalfe County wanted badly to reach the state semifinals - but by no means did the Hornets want to stop once they got there.
Unfortunately, Fort Campbell had other plans.
The Falcons took a 14-7 halftime lead, extend it to 17 in the second half and ultimately ended the Hornets' dream season 24-15 in the semifinals of the KHSAA 2A Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl Friday in Edmonton.
The Hornets's usually-powerful ground attack was stifled by Fort Campbell, held to just 47 yards on 22 carries. Will Warf finished 16-of-28 passing for 189 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Metcalfe County offense.
Fort Campbell (12-2) now moves on to next week's state championship game, where it plays Newport Central Catholic. Metcalfe County's season ends at 11-3.
