For the third straight year, Bowling Green has earned the right to play for a state championship in Louisville.

Despite five early turnovers, the Purples (13-1) advance to the Class 5A state final, defeating Owensboro 35-13 at Rash Stadium. Bowling Green will now face undefeated Highlands at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium next Friday.

Ahead 3-0 in the second quarter, the Red Devils extended their lead when Austin Moss connected with Blake Roberts for a four-yard touchdown, giving Owensboro a 10-0 lead. The Red Devils tacked on another field goal shortly thereafter to go up 13. That's when the Bowling Green offense came to life.

The Purples broke through in the second quarter when Lavance Anderson scored one of his two touchdowns on the night, cutting the Owensboro lead to six. Steelman then put the Purples ahead for good late in the second quarter with a touchdown run. Bowling Green led 14-13 at halftime.

The Red Devils (12-2) had no answer for the Purples in the second half. Bowling Green scored three more times, including a 20-yard touchdown pass from Steelman to Ryan Wallace to pad Bowling Green's lead to 35-13. Steelman finished 15-of-21 passing for 238 yards and three touchdowns, one passing and two rushing. The Purples outgained the Red Devils in total offense 462 to 159.
