Kentucky athletic director Mitch Barnhart, whom the University of Washington was looking at to fill its AD vacancy, has signed a five-year contract extension that will keep him with the Wildcats through 2012.

Barnhart -- who will earn an annual base salary of $475,000, according to the contract released Thursday during a meeting of the school's athletics association board -- is in his sixth year as athletic director.

Barnhart is hoping the new deal will end further speculation about his intentions at Kentucky.

"If you're in this industry long enough, your name's going to pop up a lot of places," Barnhart said in the Lexington Herald-Leader, referring to the rumors linking him to Washington. "I've been fortunate to be in it long enough to know a lot of people coast to coast, but that's not a concern to me or anything I want to talk about it. I want to concentrate on Kentucky, and I want to be at Kentucky."
